Garnet. (I haven't seen the last two episodes, so my guesses may be off.) There seem to be hints in the first episode that she knows in advance how the action will end. Her rare insult is the disguise for a gentle hint to the problem's solution.

The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Writing, and working for the dead, is liberating. (It was a rather good movie.)
