When I read "co-writer Nia Vardalos", I thought, "Well, that explains a lot."

Nostalgia
Watching the clips does take me back.
B?
That's cool. I'm glad the A.V. Club liked it. I was going to see it anyway, based on the Red Band trailer. But a good grade is … good.
I watched "Alien from LA" just for Kathy Ireland.
OK, this is not so good. At all.
But isn't there the potential to make a really cool movie with characters like Doc Savage and The Spider. And other Golden Age characters like The Sandman, and The Shadow. And, hell, throw Tarzan into the mix. Wouldn't that be a cool group?
Ah, yes.
I so loved this show when I was a kid. I started watching Pertwee episodes on PBS in grade school. Then I followed the show all the way through Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy.
phodreaw: I think you're thinking of Bakshi's LOTR movie. The Rankin & Bass cartoons were regular cartoons.
Choosing
I liked "True Q" a lot, and part of it was because Amanda chose to be a Q. Like Zack said, if it had been a regular character who had to choose between being a Q and being normal, we would pretty much have known how the episode would end.
You ain't lyin'.
Private Joker is silly and ignorant, but he's got guts! And guts is enough!
Mike Hammer
Somebody mentioned the Mike Hammer TV series, which was pretty cool.
I thought that Data's explanation of synthahol mentioned something like "the intoxicating effects can be easily dismissed." The implication being you might get a bit of a buzz, but not drunk.
Oh, crap. I forgot about that. But it has to be way towards the end of the book, 'cause I'm on page 580 and I haven't come to that yet.
As far as other awkward movie vs parent moments, I remember watching "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" on cable when I was maybe 15 or so, and my brother and sister were even younger. After the Zoot scene, my sister asked my mom, "What's oral sex?" Mom said, "You don't need to know."
Yeah, my mom was sitting there when I watched last night's episode. I know how the show can be, but I thought, "Nothing that happens tonight should be that bad." Then they threw in that background action.
Second book/season spoiler
I'm just about through A Clash of Kings (re-reading them all in anticipation of book 5) and Jaime isn't in it at all. So they'll have to write up some scenes where Cat or someone talks to Jaime while he's imprisoned. Or maybe they'll actually show the scene where Tyrion's guys try to break…
The Agony Booth takedown
That was pretty funny.
Golden Years
I thought it was pretty cool.
hit the road
I agree with Todd about wishing that Ned could just leave and head back to Winterfell. I'm re-reading the first book and I just keep thinking, "Let it go, man. Just get the hell out of there and let it go."
GoT page 270 … Walking past a row of shields outside tents on the tourney grounds, Ned spots one that displays a "blackadder".
