Have you read any of the Silver John stories by Manly Wade Wellman? I always think of Andy Griffith as John.

Brad Dourif was on B5, for sure. He was a serial killer who had his mind wiped, and his punishment was to spend the rest of his life as a monk. But then one of his victims' relatives found out his true identity and psychologically tortured him. Then THAT guy was given the same punishment.
