@Nissl:disqus I was completely unaware of this. I grew up with My Little Pony of the 1980s, and if you remember that version of the show it would seem mighty creepy for adults to be into it.

I go to church and used to work in the recovery field, and everything you just said stinks of being based on something you saw on TV rather than actual interaction with human beings. Don't let reality get in the way of your snarky dismissal of people who believe different things than you, though.

Really? Is my unsophisticated ear mistakenly hearing him do the same lame stoner voice over and over in every show? I can't think of a voice actor with less range, other than a celebrity guest star on the Simpsons.

Well, that much is certainly true. I'm old enough to remember the Simpson's debut, and a big part of it's impact was that there was absolutely nothing like it in existence. It was kind of mind-blowing. Bob's Burgers is one of dozens of adultish cartoons that exist, in a block with 3-4 other cartoons on Sunday, the 3rd

@avclub-c30b17b451a2d904d45a4c895dbd4a62:disqus I'm pretty sure anyone who walks around quoting Family Guy jokes to women and gay people was destined to behave awfully with or without that show for material. Clutching your pearls about it just lends credibility to the easily-offended straw man they seem themselves

Fanatacism ain't the same thing as being religious. Referring to this young man's problem as "religiousness" is like saying a guy who has two beers on Friday night and a skid row alcoholic are on the same level.

They're here, they just don't talk to AVclub commenters.

If you need a bachelor's in Gender Studies to get jokes that are centered around "marks of class distinction", it probably explains why I never laugh when I watch it.

Spongebob really starts to degrade after the first few seasons, but is surprisingly funny. Phineas and Ferb skews a little younger than Gravity Falls to me, but it's also on the short list of shows my kids watch that don't make me homicidal.

@Nissl:disqus My Little Pony? Am I being fucked with or is this really something adults watch?

I think the mom is the only thing I really enjoy in that show. The voice work is pretty lazy otherwise. I really am tired of the guy who plays the dad using the same voice in 20 different shows AND using the same voice for bit characters in those shows. It's totally distracting to me. She reminds me of Marge Simpson

I haven't consistently watched the Simpsons since season 10 and I wouldn't consider the Simpsons that's on now to be the same show for the purpose of this (or any) discussion.

Yeah! I couldn't put my finger on it, but that Treehouse comparison really nails the feel of the show for me. Bob's Burgers has no particularly offensive quality or anything that annoys me (where new Simpsons and every McFarlane show actively irritate me), I just don't laugh a lot. It feels a lot like an off episode

It has a lot of heart, but is really fucking off-kilter and weird. I also laugh out loud at least few times every episode, which I never do for any comedy except old Simpsons and a few notable exceptions.

I think the Simpsons comparison is way overshooting the mark. I don't like cartoons enough to indiscriminately consume two hours of shitty Fox programming every Sunday, and I consider classic Simpsons and Futurama to be exceptionally good in that transcend my usual apathy towards the genre. I've watched this show

The lost Dawes review has surfaced on the internet:

@avclub-21a8615938a206d4311a58a53ad8890e:disqus Your instinct is correct. I succumbed to curiousity and seriously regret it…the things you will see can not be unseen. There's also a 80% chance that you will end up with kiddie porn in your browser's cache just by opening the front page.

This particular moment isn't so bad, I think it only bothers me when the show clearly sympathizes with her. I have less of a problem with a well-written character that happens to be obnoxious than I do with the show occasionally being oblivious to the fact that she's obnoxious.

Rewatching the series in my thirties, I've found Lorelai to be incredibly obnoxious, bordering on unlikable at times. The biggest weakness of the show for me this time is how it clearly roots for Lorelai even when she's being awful. I kind of enjoy the rare occasions when people turn on her or tell her off, and find

Finish the job, please.
