I am objectively interested in the how/why of processed foods and their development, I guess my wariness is that the book seems like it's kind of playing into the semi-superstitious practice of tagging certain ingredients or qualities of food as "bad" or "unnatural". Speaking of hooking into people's natural

It's funny, because the book grew out of pretty questionable source material (the "pink slime" hype was more of a boogieman than legitimate concern in my opinion), and the the premise sounds even more questionable…there *might* be a case to argue that processed food hooked us on sugar, but salt and fat cravings are

I hate Lunchables, my kids don't eat them and never will on my watch…but I don't buy that they need to be regulated. The advertising does its job and gets them to whine for them every time I walk down the aisle in the grocery store, but it's amazingly easy for me to say "hell no" and keep walking. All the bans in the

@paraclete_pizza:disqus In these parts (Southern New England), if you asked a drug dealer for dope there is a 100% chance you would get heroin. Nobody except maybe some old hippies has even heard dope used in reference to marijuana.

@avclub-726c3743d17c0e0bd19c0e87fd53dafd:disqus I've seen some Top Chef and Chopped and can stand small doses…I think it's the format that is off-putting. Menu development is informed by trends and innovation a bit, but there is a lot of careful planning about what ingredients are used and 99% of the time there's a

I find all of the competition-style cooking shows difficult to watch. When they got popular a few years back there started to be this influx of lazy morons into the professional cooking world. Even in the nicest restaurants, creativity is maybe 10% of the chef's job, and as a line cook it's generally 0% of your job.

He fell asleep…must have attempted listening to Metal Machine Music straight through again.

I didn't say it wasn't art. I said it's not interesting.

I just like my music to be music. Metal Machine Music sucks not because it's edgy or noisy or rough-hewn…it's just monotonous and lacks any sort of structure whatsoever.

If you went to a hardcore show in the 90s, half the crowd looked like him. Sometimes including the blue hair.

I really loved Ramsay's original BBC version of Kitchen Nightmares..it was really low-key and got into the nuts and bolts of the restaurant business. I remember quite a few episodes which involved really good chefs who just didn't know their market or were buying products in the wrong place or whatever, and the issues

I've heard Metal Machine Music in its entirety, and if someone swapped it out for a disc of vaccuum cleaners and blenders I wouldn't notice the difference. "Interesting" is a huge stretch.

Milk?

The smaller towns are in the low end of that estimate. Smallest town I've lived in or near had a population of 2000 and it was way quieter than Stars Hollow.

I remember both a hardcore band and a lesser-known pop-punk band from the 90s that went by the name Milhouse. I saw the hardcore version once or twice, they were actually really good.

Everytime any article on this website is even tangentally related to the South, Christianity, or conservatives, there is a ridiculous amount of ill-informed vitriol from people who are ironically acting in the name of tolerance. It's usually pretty clear that they haven't actually met anyone from the group they're

I think since the beliefs are

The darkness of this show is the first thing that made me notice this show when it was just something my kids were watching….it really isn't toned down at all. I don't think it's a criticism at all, it makes it much more palatable for me and is more than balanced by goofiness and goofy characters. There is some

@avclub-a93a879594c13c12a83fd45ab289a022:disqus Yeah, until my jail lawsuit asserting the constitutional right to pop culture website access in prison goes through, seeing me here will be an indicator that all is well.

In case it wasn't clear with all the irony and gimmicks around here, this wasn't any kind of a joke. My life was just kind of fucked up for a few years.
