This sounds exactly like a Lil Wayne album…which is to say shitty. It's funny how the herd mentality amongst critics somehow gave him a pass for being complete garbage this long. Half of this review is spent justifying his past acclaim, and it still seems graded a little high for what it is. The Kool-Aid is still

@drdarke:disqus , have you ever been to a UCC or Congregationalist church? The view you have of Christianity just doesn't apply to a huge segment of the population. We don't believe every bit of the bible is literal, we don't kick people out of church for questioning their faith, we don't have a conservative political

Seeing as Cesar Chavez was a devout Christian, there's an argument to be made that his picture was more appropariate than rabbits or eggs or whatever else, which were appropriated from pagan traditions. Of course you'd be making that argument to people who were dumb enough to watch this show and also probably confused

Plenty of Christians think this sucks and have no interest in assimilating you into a monoculture. You're just unaware of them because they don't make shitty miniseries or televangelize. That said, I know better than to expect any different on a pop culture website, but a lot of the reviews and the comments here do

This shit is as embarassing as Joel Osteen. It's a blatant cash-in which is preaching strictly to the dumbest part of the choir, with zero chance of generating the slightest bit of interest in Christianity or spirituality in general.

I'm not evangelical or fundamentalist, but I go to church every week and believe…and I'd rather watch fucking Veggie Tales with my kids than this horseshit. I can't even muster up the enthusiasm to half-heartedly defend intelligent Christians in these comments, because frankly I can't blame anyone for watching this

It's cheesy but relatable enough that it's worth watching.

I made the mistake of listening to Vampire Weekend so I could have an informed opinion of them. I have no fucking idea what this twee horseshit has to do with a grungy blues-rock band from 20 years ago. This is what I get for taking the opinions of White Zombie fans seriously.

Didn't care for Neneh Cherry, don't remember Inspiral Carpets. That REM album is good now that some time has passed, but those singles were sooooooooo overplayed back then. MTV played REM like twice an hour, or at least it felt like that.

What the fuck does it mean for something to be a "collective Vampire Weekend"? Am I too old for this metaphor? I'm going to guess it's a stupid metaphor since you're publicly admitting that you'd rather listen to White Zombie than Screaming Trees.

I think I remember being really bored by MTV that week. Ned's Atomic Dustbin really benefitted by comparison…

Garage bands playing in churches is one of the few wacky plots that is actually legit in Connecticut…there are tons of Unitarian and Congregationalist churches who have a sideline as punk venues.

He must know more than me if he understand the relationship between wheat bread and Slayer.

The writers here are all suffering from a fatal testosterone allergy. To continue the stupid bread metaphor, letting them write about thrash is like letting someone with celiac's review a bakery.

If you cook extra mussels and make them into soup, they're totally fine as leftovers. They can be steamed, scooped out of the shell and frozen with their juices for later use also.

There's a benefit concert recording floating around of the Rollins Band doing a Black Flag set. The band is acceptable, but it would only be worth listening to if you really like Rollins as a vocalist.

I think Morris hates everyone in the Circle Jerks, so his time is split between this and OFF! now.

@avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus Obviously it's subjective, I just don't think I'ver ever heard anyone hold up any material after My War as being better. Good, but not better. It seemed like a universal truth that there was some kind of decline and everyone just disagreed about how severe it was and

@avclub-ca4fc44a59d0201cc7d4f760153cb00c:disqus Damaged was my gateway and I like My War a lot, but it's really like a different band than all the Pre-Rollins stuff. And there are pieces of the other later albums I do like, but you honestly don't think it was a case of diminishing returns? They got more interesting

I think the former sentiment, as evidenced in say, an addict whose faith helps them overcome addiction, is indisputedly a beautiful thing regardless of how you feel about the specifics of religion. The latter is a narcissistic perversion of the former which not only misses the point but is the complete opposite: That
