Simon Wincer
Your list of Simon Wincer's directorial credits was a little too deliberate, Keith. The man has worked on more than his share of junk, but he also directed the very enjoyable Quigley Down Under and the stone-cold masterpiece Lonesome Dove.

No, WitchFinder is right. Ti says "Anyone who complains about the state of horror, especially all the remakes, it's your own fucking fault". As WitchFinder points out, the only people complaining about the state of horror are the true fans who support movies like Drag Me to Hell or House of the Devil. The general

Original Bill Watterson art
Since it appears there are a lot of big C&H buffs here, some of you may appreciate this.

Speaking of earnest 80's homages by ex-angry young men, Clive Gregson recorded a tribute song on Any Trouble's self-titled album called, natch, "Northern Soul". There's also a good folky version on his "Home and Away" record with Christine Collister.

Ah, of course. The album so nice, they named it twice. Consider me schooled.

The Flirtations
Their full-length featuring "Nothing But a Heartache" is actually entitled "Sounds Like the Flirtations".

hpnerd, I'd be surprised if other non-spectacular videos became sensations the way these sci-fi/action things have, with the exception of comedies. Youtube is a great platform for short, eye-catching nonsense. It's not a great platform for things like serious acting, complicated emotions or subtlety in general.

Good point, Yeah. Spielberg, Scorsese, the Coens, Spike Lee, John Carpenter, all the Pixar guys etc were film school brats. Not coincidentally, I think they're all filmmakers who also have a better grasp of film history and theory, which strengthens and deepens their work.

Paul Naschy
Paul Naschy (nee Jacinto Molina), the star of dozens of fondly remembered European B-movies, died this week. His Waldemar Daninsky werewolf series in particular was pretty popular. I'm surprised you guys didn't note his passing.

I missed that episode of "Smallville", since I stopped watching it after the second season. But I thought those first two seasons had some really choice stuff. Harry Potter and Twilight have since unfortunately beaten the "teen fantasy" horse beyond recognition, but "Smallville" had a really entertaining combination

Verily, it's a dick move. But it happens.

The old in-out
Actually, I don't think it's unusual for movie stars to show up to screenings late, stay incognito and leave early, just like the bullhorn guy described. The altruistic reason is that they know their presence is distracting and would rather the audience stay focused on the film itself. The cynical and

I'm a huge fan of Fritz Lang, so I think he made very few mis-steps in his career. THE BIG HEAT is great—as are SCARLET STREET, FURY, et al.—but for Lang's best American film I think I'd pick RANCHO NOTORIOUS or the extremely underrated MAN HUNT.

With all respect, meyer, I think "Don't Look Now" is the scariest film I've ever seen, and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is excellently crafted. Different strokes, my friend.
