Wow, I was completely unaware of that case. So that was a pretty big asterisk for Normal Mailer, I suppose. I really hope Peter Jackson's biography doesn't get one. Though, I think we'd all like to see Vedder taken down a peg or two.

Has one of these celebrity-endorsed releases ever backfired in the long run? Obviously, I'm not hoping that happens (stop yelling at me, internet!), but if this guy or Hurricane Carter or Mumia confesses on his deathbed, it would certainly make for some awkward rock show stage banter the next day.

My then-girlfriend-now-wife was working at Starbucks when "I Am Sam" came out and the company gave a bunch of employees free passes to see it. When Sam showed up in the Starbucks frock, I could see most of her co-workers shaking their head in shock. It's not often your employer basically says to your face, "Hey dummy,

Seriously, my parents did that both their dogs. No euphemism. They went to live on an actual farms where they had many happy hears ahead of them with families who were much better at bonding with animals that mine was apparently.

You are 100% correct. When I was a Coen/Raimi obsessed teenager in the early 90s, I tracked down a used VHS copy at some thrift store and thought I'd found the Holy Grail. I convinced myself for a long time that it was amazing. Then I watched it again when it hit DVD a few years ago and I was reminded that teenagers

A Coen brothers script not directed by Coen brothers doesn't work, does it? "Crimewave" even had the benefit of their close friend and like-minded stylist Sam Raimi at the helm, and it was still a dud (though there are some awesome moments).

I agree that if you can't pay for something, then you don't get to have it. Absolutely. But this is precisely why I believe the musicians have plenty of power in this scenario. When she made the request on her website to her fanbase, how many "professional" musicians agreed to her terms. Does anybody know? I'm willing

I am once again responding to Miller, but I remain way too dumb to do it the fancy way where his/her name is in a cool gray box. Apologies.

If I'm mistaken, forgive me, but she isn't looking for musicians to tour with full-time, only guests in each city to expand the line-up for a few songs. Her core band, which will have the misfortune of wearing  suspenders and eyeliner while playing those boring songs night after night will be paid for their time,

I'm trying to respond to Miller but I'm too dumb to note that without writing it explicitly here.

I don't understand why people are so upset about this lady. The only people who gave her a million dollars are her die-hard fans, right? And the only people who would be willing to play alongside her for free are also her die-hard fans, right? Who is she hurting exactly? Isn't all this drama unfolding within her own
