Goddamnit, I'm so bad at picking favorites (or "best"s). There was a favorite movies thread last week, and I was so paralyzed by indecision that I didn't end up commenting even though I thought about it for like 2 hours.

I think it's generally a good idea to give the benefit of the doubt to the person perceiving racism against them rather than the people being accused of racism. People being accused of racism rarely, if ever, think they're being racist as long as they're not saying the N-word (and hell, Paula Deen for example doesn't…
I AGREE. Like with "artisenal" up there in the Whole Foods entry. What's that about! Weren't they going to hire a copy editor a while back? And no I'm not angry just because I'm a copy editor and they could have hired me and everything would have been so perfect for everyone!
I just got Oryx and Crake by Atwood from the library! I hear it is a pretty weird one. And maybe dystopic? I'm not sure — my friend said the less I know beforehand the better, probably.
I am moving in to a new apartment in MA on Saturday and then going to a wedding in NJ on Sunday and I'm not stressing out about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not planning on going anywhere any time soon, BUT I just got back from a trip to Nova Scotia, which was pretty sweet. Actually, I thought Halifax was only OK — kind of lame as far as cities go. There were some little touristy fishing towns nearby that kind of reminded me of Gloucester, MA.
An escalator ate my friend's entire shoe.
We had a going-away party for one of my roommates at our place, and he invited some of his high school friends, who were mostly nice though maybe a little too finance-bro for me. So this one guy who I barely interacted with kept saying how I was his second-favorite person there, and how it was cool that I was drinking…
The summer after my first year of college, my friends and I took a road trip to Montreal. Prior to this, I'd only had cheap party beer, so ordering a real beer at a bar was a bit of a revelation. I got a (probably unremarkable) nut brown ale at some bar, but because I'd never had a real beer before, combined with the…
When I was little I almost started crying during that scene. And then I told myself it was just a movie. And I remember how that completely and utterly took me out of the moment — like I stopped caring about the characters and the movie and couldn't stop seeing it as a meaningless piece of fiction — and for some…
Grizzly Bear - Yet Again
LCD Soundsystem - Home
James Blake - Retrograde
Mountain Goats - Orange Ball of Hate
Arctic Monkeys - A Certain Romance
Have you guys heard of X-Art? One of my female friends has similar issues with most straight porn, so I recommended that porn… studio?, and she ended up liking it. The actors, male and female, are all beautiful. (For some reason there tend to be a lot of ugly/skeevy guys in most straight porn, in my opinion — maybe…
What did you think of Hard-Boiled Wonderland? One of my friends swears by Murakami, but I tried Norwegian Wood a while back and couldn't get into it. Maybe I should try a different entry point?
Marisha Pessl's first book is the only book I've ever purchased almost solely because of how gorgeous the author looked on the inside cover photo. (Also I'd vaguely heard the book was good. And then it was good. Still, kind of a weird reason to buy a book.)
I remember that it had one of the more flattering profiles. Like you're good at everything you do and you intuitively understand people and situations very quickly.
I don't think meeting Wayne Coyne in any capacity can ever count as an uncool moment.
My go-to snack is popcorn with a healthy dusting of cayenne pepper on top. It's delicious. Try it.
I never understood why putting "Created by a schoolteacher!" on the box was supposed to instill confidence in the product. (No offense to schoolteachers.)
I think I am one of those people.
Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about the job recommendation aspect of it. I've seen people with wildly different personalities do well in the same work environment, and I've seen people who seem really similar personality-wise who have no overlapping professional interests.
