When my son was about 3 we were doing a Voyager rewatch (it was on cable at the time) and he became obsessed with the Doctor. He asked for a medical tricorder, and as we were pretty broke at the time, I made him a wooden one with painted screen and buttons, with a little cylinder that attached to the top with velcro.

I'm now using this as part of my vocal warmup. :)

Necessary Evil, too, if only for the last shot. That's when I really felt like we were in a whole new ball game.

@avclub-53e4db6f596904f154b5efa09193e3ab:disqus lol, I'm a fan of yours and really enjoyed that photography post above, but let's be honest, Saturday Night has you in her loving embrace, yes? ;)

"I lost count." :D

I think this was foreshadowed in the last ep when Moriarty said "we both know that [Sherlock is heartless] isn't really true". He also threatened to "burn the heart out of him" which made me wonder if Irene ending up in danger wasn't Moriarty's doing.

@avclub-bd847fd835b2c6025557898b6aff7b2d:disqus As usual, you clarified what I was trying to say, but much more eloquently. *doffs hat to you*

Or a rapper. Or a radio station. It's hard to say with Bell.

Well, to my mind, there are three cases: a) a real person in real life, yes, should get to pay the debt and clean the slate; b) a character in any other tv show, particularly one in which moral gray areas abound, who might indeed find redemption; and c) a Trek show. As DS9 was trying hard to be in the second category,

@avclub-23dc117ef9479407fb6c6a666005af40:disqus That scene really annoys me too, mostly because I have a hard time believing that a man a) from 400 years from now and b) a completely post-racial society and c) who isn't particularly a history buff so far as I can tell (African art aside) would be so annoyed by the

*more spoilers* the fact that she gets nicked

Only two dots? When you loved me you gave me three… sigh… You don't communicate with me like you used to…

The UT has an odd sense of humor, for a few months it turned ALL songs into the DS9 theme, until people finally caught on and Miles O'Brien: Space Pimp bitchslapped it back into shape.

I admit this is a bit of a problem I have with TNG is that everyone seems a little bit too much of a culture-snob. Like people play chess and listen to classical-music or jazz.

Jadzia Dax vacillated between behaving as youth and elder mentor from scene to scene—not to mention from episode to episode—and that lack of decision about which she was destroyed all cohesiveness and believability in her character.

I suppose you're right.

@avclub-04d524031f29c89d78cae864bd6f0de7:disqus in her defense, the *SPOILERS* crystal thing wasn't really Kira. Which makes it slightly less painful to watch. And the sand spine thing, well, that was bad, but I did like that it reflected my own experience of having people I dislike intensely being around so long that

I do wonder, however, what went wrong in the creative process that it was thought necessary to write a “women should be allowed to work” message story in 1993 CE.  From what I know of your history, that message was three decades belated in the cultural context of the story's intended audience.

*SPOILERS* There's a bit in one ep (memory failing me) about how he was a real up-and-comer until he got involved with an important man's daughter. I'm really vague on the details, but somehow he angered that father and had to hightail it out of there. I always assumed that's why he's so far from Ferengenar. It also
