The loss of Doakes definitely marked the decline, although it took me another season and a half to come to terms with it.

@Renaton what critics ever praised Hanson? And what about pop artists like Fiona Apple, Jewel, Alanis Morrisette, Dido or Bjork (I could go on and on) - all arguably good vocalists that conquered over all of the terrible eurotrash garbage dominating the charts in the mid to late 90's? Even Madonna was still a…
Vous avez canceraids.
So there aren't that many different kinds of films with various styles and influences from different countries? Music and film are basically the same in that regard, and there are plenty of other articles concerning not just "the best" artists and bands, but "the best" films as well. Whole features devoted to it here…
@djur:twitter Except that we're discussing bands, not artists. If we were, I think you'd be crazy not to include rap or electronic music and their related genres/subgenres.
I don't know why I feel the need to jump on this point so badly today but really, I don't get why everyone is posting these sorts of comments. They're so glaringly obvious and this entire site features an endless stream of articles claiming various things are "The Best" with varying degrees of success.
That Ranker list is fucking horrible. Any list that ranks Seal above Bjork should be formally banned from public view.
Booooooo.
@avclub-b4238f7793ec8c1a632f14f2a1766c68:disqus You think country or hip hop fans wouldn't find some distinction between punk (which is pretty obviously high energy) and SLOW-core? Not even knowing what that is, you could guess that you couldn't lump them together. Also..and this is just because your argument is…
This isn't any more of an absolute proclamation than the other article is. They claimed those are the "THE 50 BEST movies of the 90's" - it's not simply a list of movies, it's a list of the only movies they thought were worth mentioning in the 90's. He spent this entire article trying to make a case for why he…
I caught that podcast on Youtube last week and it really was great. This is just more of the same. Watch it!
I'm not sure if you're trolling or what. How are all these labels interchangable?
I was born in '85, but I still have an internet connection so…
It's clearly a tie.
Hell yes.
That's interesting. All of you inspired me to track down the Chevy Chase roast, and Richard Belzer made some comment where he addressed the fact that the audience wasn't laughing enough at his jokes (and he couldn't care less because he's a dramatic actor). I thought it was particularly odd/unnecessary because the…
The shitty 90's radio rock-pop hits you were listening to sucked dick, yes. I don't know that you could put down the entire decade based on that, but you're entitled to your opinion. I guess.
You do know that more than 50 movies came out in the 90's, right?
Why does it have to? I mean this is still just one man's opinion. The "50 Best films" article is more annoying (to me) because it's a collective effort to compile what they're certain are the 50 best films of the decade - and even with all of that effort, they fail to properly defend their insanely…
I think that all depends on how old you were in the 90's. It seems like the target audience for music of any decade always skews pretty young (and exists mostly for teenagers) so if you were much older in the 90's (or missed it entirely because you were too young) you're less likely to wholly appreciate it. At least…
