Don't know a lot of Frank's catalog, but love "Live at the Fillmore East." Also got a big kick out of Freak Out. "Bad Trouble Coming Every Day" (that's the chorus if not the song name) never gets old, for obvious reasons.

Love lots of Bowie, but Hunky Dory is somewhere high up in my Top 5 albums of all time.

If you're talking about David Live with Earl Slick on guitar, gotta disagree — love it.

…but you could also argue that books of different genres and aspirations should be judged on their own terms.

makes sense.

just asking
Whatta you have to do to get an A around here? I haven't read the book, but I've read a lot of reviews, all raves, and this one calls it "one of the greatest rock biographies." You say it doesn't have anything in it a dedicated Stones fan wouldn't know, but I'm a dedicated Stones fan who's read a few books

Maybe the fact that the guy in question is known by a generation or two of lusting female fans for having the biggest baddest cock in the world changes the picture a bit. True or not, to make fun of Mick Jagger's tiny penis is a great joke.

Geez, I was so disappointed with Wildflowers when I bought it that I actually threw it away, something I very rarely do. A bad move, I guess — should have given it more time, but the impression on first couple of listens was not good. Surprised to hear people call it a favorite TP record.

Does this CD retain the annoying joke break for album listeners who have to get up and turn the record over?

No love for his poem "To Science"?

@Tek Jansen: Are you sure it's Frey singing lead on Desperado? I always thought that was Henley.

Love "Boys of Summer." It's a continuation of the end of the 60s theme that Nathan mentions in his piece. Fantastic song, fantastic production.

fair enough
"When I actually sat down to listen, I discovered that good music could be made by slick professionals rather than tortured artists…"

props to Jessica Simpson
I realize it's way too late to be posting a comment that anyone will read, but I watched the finale last night again and have to say that I disagree with all the nastiness directed at Jessica Simpson. I know nothing about her career and, yea, she was chubby, but her comments were intelligent,

conspiracy theory
Is it possible the producers cut short the "screw Gretchen" fest-in-the-making during the reunion because she was the eventual winner and it would seem tacky if earlier in the show the winner-to-be had been ripped to pieces (as she deserved) by most if not all the other contestants? God it would have

That PSA is great, and so is Tim Gunn. I don't think they should make him leave New York City. It's like running into him at the Wal-Mart. He's too elegant for the real world.

Coming late to this excellent discussion of the show (just watched the episode on demand) but wanted to say I think what the judges have said a couple of times about Gretchen's clothes is that the clothes are boring or badly designed but she HAS taste (not that she has bad taste). That's the justification they give

I salute you, Nick Cage
You gotta admire the courage. The Nickster takes a stand where many would fear to tread. Imagine the shit he's going to take from the cannibalism lobby.

Similar?
Any resemblance here to The Frenzy of Renown? Sounds as if they might have some things in common — FOR was billed as a history of fame. I never made it through that book, but it got a fair amount of attention years ago.

Who cares if it's right, as long as it's entertaining! That's the American way! Vote Tea Party!
