Sure, he has a singular interest (movies) that he examines in a wide variety of styles and genres, many artists do. Movies are as much a part of the real life as anything else. It's not his fault that you don't consider that a proper thing for a real artist to focus on.

Counterpoint: Christopher Nolan is properly rated, verging on underrated. The Dark Knight Rises is probably his worst, but he hasn't made a bad movie yet.
