yes, this was a very solid, very enjoyable episode. but not in contention for best-of-series in my book. "roswell," for example, played similarly fast-and-loose with cool scifi tropes in a similarly fresh way, but also had hysterical jokes (e.g., Truman busting out of the cargo crate, fry's grandmother just

1) farnsworth alone in newly completed building
2) "this is vergon 6" conference ("guh!")
3) zapp & kiff call leela & amy to negotiate a double date
4) fry and bone-itis guy in hover chairs (farnsworth in exact same pose as in 1)
5) "freedom, freedom, freedom, oy!"
6) yivo got the professor! (someone in the background

good episode with some questionable dialogue
really liked the episode. i definitely had, for the first time in a while, that feeling of "oh no, not yet!" when the end credits came up. the faster pace works much better for me, and i also continue to enjoy lorena more than seemingly anyone else here does. what can i

…as i continue to watch…

it IS a damn good episode. i'm watching it right now.

"sugar? sure! here you go. sorry it's not in packages."

unfortunately, yes.

hey, i never said i didn't *like* those episodes (like "teenage leela's…", or the moon whalers). i said i don't love them a lot. big difference there.

my favorite scene involving that relationship is in a later episode, where dawn is turned away from him, crying (of course), and spike haltingly reaches out to stroke her head to comfort her, but she turns around and he instead feigns smoothing his hair.

here's my mindless nostalgia kicking in, but after the series found its initial footing (mid-season one), i can't think of an episode i didn't enjoy.

those writers are laughing all the way to the bank.

fundamental problem in a decent movie
$120 million dollars? really, $120 million dollars?

future speculation by those who don't read ahead in wikipedia plot synopses
so we've had a fry+farnsworth adventure, and a bender+hermes adventure. what's next week? i'm pretty sure it'll either be amy+zoidburg, or hopefully leela and scruffy.

i miss futurama.
i just did not like this episode. i realize it's a critique that's so subjective it's sure to open me up to "mindless nostalgia" mockery, but this entry in the futurama re-booting again struck me as uninspired. to be honest, it feels to me like new simpsons vs. classic simpsons. you can tell

common knowledge
i thought everyone knew about the gargantuan proportions of duck family jewels. that's why ducks are so fearsome and domineering.

best scene in suspiria
that scene in the plaza at night when the blind guy's dog gets spooked is intensely scary, if i remember right.

yeah, sarCCastro, i adore that in the soundtrack where they periodically, in a loud stage whisper, just say "WITCH" for no real reason. the nonsense syllables are nice too. their commitment to being completely corny/crazy really sells it.

vampire rules
why would bill need to ask the werewolf where sookie was? why would he be surprised to hear she was in mississippi? i thought vampires could sense the location of anyone who'd had their blood.
