Well yes, but I was being referring to a pretty tangible variety of power, i.e., the power to hire/fire a person. Employer/employee can't possibly exist on an equal social plane, and this colors all of their interactions in a way that normal friendships are not.

So here's something I wanna throw out there that I've only recently noticed: Like Todd, I always enjoyed the platonic male-female relationships because for whatever reason they always become more dynamic and less predictable, which is what I've assumed to be the appeal of relationships like Don/Peggy, Jack/Liz, and to

David Bowman's This Must Be The Place is a pretty great read on The Talking Heads and I always liked his take on Stop Making Sense. In addition to the theatrical arc he reads an emotional arc of the Heads and Byrne in particular shedding his nerdy rigidity and matching the loose energy of the P-Funk utility players

Theatrical releases for rock documentaries are basically a thing of the past (and even then they probably had a 5 year run). But a lot of those elements, like no audience shots, were the standard and Demme openly admits to copping The Last Waltz and Rust Never Sleeps. The art school theatricality is uniquely Talking

It's a guaranteed way to root out the people you want to spend time with at a party though.

I don't think it really is that heavy on studio overdubs. They shot two identical shows (right down to keeping the same exact tempo you can see Chris Frantz checking before songs). So when things don't match up it's only because they're taking audio from one show and laying it over shots from the other.

It hit closer to home than I'm probably willing to admit.

"Oh, she's too self-involved to commit suicide."

Don't care how off base, awesome anecdote and I'm off to find that bootleg.

I think, to be fair, the show had Phillis and Stanley helping out on Jim's days off, so they weren't having any new expenditures, i.e., other salaries, and they kept the same amount of influx. Now, I suppose it's gotten to the point that they do need to hire a new salesperson so it seems right that it should come out

Damn white boy, you're just picking all my favorite quotes.

@yahoo-XA4RDSRSUX3XRSCPRR7XNGSPUQ:disqus Logically, I think it makes sense, but the effect on the viewer still makes it feel unearned because it is very much out of the blue. It's like having a romantic comedy that takes place over a weekend only to end with her long term ex-boyfriend swooping in at the last five

Or sure, I suppose you'd like a real micro-manager. The kind of person who has a problem with you painting a 30 foot mural in your warehouse full of paper, and won't let you take some time off at the drop of a hat to go find yourself on a boat or in a sports marketing start-up, or take issue with you hiring out a hit

Not to defend the writers (I groaned every time Brian showed up, we get it Brian you're a white knight), but I imagine the thinking was we need to have the audience believe there's a character who Pam could conceivably have enough long-term intimacy with to justify having her fairy tale marriage threatened. Except,

Well sure a little windows gonna leak, but what if it's all window?!

I'm a big fan. Yay opinions!

Too bad she paid $40K/year for it.

You joke, but that has an excellent hook. Give it anything but a Saturday morning cartoon arrangement and you'll have a solid song.
