Loved it the first time I saw it, but the big thing that struck me going back a second time a little while later after better familiarizing myself with Bergman was not just how funny it is but funny in ways Bergman never is otherwise. There's actual slapstick in it.

He's one of maybe 5 actors where I will watch anything based on his involvement alone. I just watched this female pro wrestling tag team rote sports underdog movie where he plays the manager and he was fucking delightful. He's always interesting even when the material isn't.

They're very much in Seinfeld Season 8 mode, where these characters are so familiar to the audience the scenarios just play out expecting everyone to understand the character's psychology and inevitable downward trajectory culminating in a big collision. They don't need to really rationalize or spell out behavior

More people need to talk about Mel Brooks the film nerd. Looking at the comedic qualities of his movies is really half the picture. He was an exceptional stylist. High Anxiety is pitch perfect Hitchcock homage down to the way he moves that camera. As evident by The Elephant Man pick, he was a great judge of talent.

Other post 1922 films are in public domain simply because they didn't renew

Literature is 70 years after the death of the author. At least that's what my very crude knowledge of U.S. copyright law has lead me to believe.

Sure, but did she pick up on the lyrical mocking of Bruce Springsteen?
