I'll definitely grant you that Van's sax playing is tolerable at best, dreadful at worst (I think he's gotten somewhat better as years went on).

Yeah if you go to Europe they still hold onto this understanding, but it was similarly understood in the U.S. pre-1950, before Anarcho-Capitalists like Rothbard and Minarchists like all those Ayn Rand-disciples came along (though Rand always despised the libertarian label as a bastardization of her objectivism).
