I might go with Black Swan and O Brother Where Art Thou? as a pretty strong 1 & 2. I certainly think Aronofsky and the Coen Brothers are the absolute best we have to offer in modern day cinema.

You know what I'd like to see? A separate list that stipulates you may only vote for films that have never appeared in the top 50 before. It'll ensure more modern, odder, left-field choices, and a better chance that I haven't seen every single one of these films 7 years ago when I took an introductory film class.
