It's a lot of Toronto, but I'd recommend Scott Pilgrim or Take This Waltz.  Both very Toronto-ey without the whole being a terrible movie thing.

Those 2 big albums have aged remarkably well.  Both very solid.  And give credit to Duritz for being unabashadly personal in his songwriting - while acknowledging how annoying he could be.  Takes balls.
