Well… the multiple-roles casting means that they're accentuating the weakest parts of the book (the pseudo-reincarnation silliness), but it also looks like they're dulling the most interesting parts of the book, which is the shift in styles (it all looks kinda same-y instead of genuinely different for each period.)

Thought it was a mostly average episode with some good gags, but dear god, the scene in Zoidberg's dumpster-home is one of the best things the show's ever done!  Funny, more than a little bit depressing, gross and weird, and somehow all of those emotional reactions balance out beautifully.
