Nope, sorry. Democrats have been joking about the connection, but Limbaugh completely made this up:

Yep. There's the winner.

Nah, they've always been a little slow with some reviews, and since Ocean's debut technically didn't drop until today, they probably didn't have anyone scheduled to review it until next week. Their other posts related to the album or its singles are gushing, so I expect the review will be, too.

Yeah. I hesitate to use the term "free pass", but she's such a unique and gifted actress that I'm happy to see her getting high-profile work.

One of the real curiosities of the negative reviews** is their belief that it's an outsider's fantasy of Katrina - Dana Stevens actually calls it Rousseau with "crawdads and zydeco." But you aren't hearing much of that from locals, because the movie's pretty damned accurate in terms of both physical details and the…

Has Beasts of the Southern Wild been that divisive? I've only seen two or three reviewers raising the kinds of concerns you mention here - most notably Dana Stevens - while most everyone else has been just this side of gushing.

Yeah, me too. Flashbacks to my closeted teenage self, and it hurts. What an amazing piece of music.

My best guess is that they didn't even calculate it ahead of time: they adopted it as a catch-all regardless of artist, and have been stubbornly sticking by the policy (except for when Jay-Z and Kanye did it, because they're not that stupid.)

I think it's more of a "punishment for not giving us the opening week boon we were hoping for." As more than a few commenters have been pointing out, it doesn't make sense to be mad at Target: they're the ones screwing themselves over here. The album's going to be a big seller, and they won't get any of it.

I think we both agree that it's a really big deal as far as social issues go, so we're just disagreeing on whether it's relevant to the music itself. And there are a range of reviews right now from "It doesn't matter at all" to "It's the most important thing evah."
