Maybe?  Haven't seen Treme, so I'll take your word for it.

I'll just repost what I wrote over on Gawker about this: To be honest, this is the best potential casting for Igantius since John Goodman wanted the role. Unfortunately I don't have nearly as much faith in the writer/director team… I'd have preferred the Soderbergh/Green collaboration from a few years back, but they

Denis Lavant is one of those actors whose talent is inversely proportional to the accolades he's received for it.  Look at his paltry list of awards/nominations over the years.

His Rufio costume is pretty good, but the mohawk's on the wrong side.

As I said above, that was my experience with the movie.  I thought Binoche was (in her usual, professional way) messy enough to overcome the banality of the dialogue, but the other actor was not.

It’s not a character study, as escort, professor, and boyfriend alike are defined exclusively by a few shallow behavioral tics. The narrative, which I’ve described almost in its entirety above, consists of dispassionate conversations that are 80% filler, pointlessly repeating what’s already been said or digressing

It's a testament to how awful Mr. Holland's Opus is that the terrible, terrible symphony at the end isn't the worst part about the movie.  It more than deserves to be on this list for being an avalance of schmaltz, but by that point in the movie, you've already drowned in schmaltz, so it barely registers.

"Important" is a tough call (in terms of the industry, you can easily argue that Michael Bay is more important), but I do think he's one of the few international filmmakers who's genuinely marching to the beat of his own drum.  Don't get me wrong: there are a lot of brilliant people working today, but even the best of
