Not incompetent: just ambitious beyond his modest talents and experience.  He's like a lot of my students, in that he thinks he knows more than he does and would benefit from some age and maturity; but unlike them he has the capital and clout to get his projects made now.  Hopefully he'll mature into it, but … yeah.

Maybe (I haven't seen the movie), but there is no word 'spionom' in Russian.  It's 'shpionam'.

Not really, but even funnier: Connery just leaves words out randomly when he doesn't feel like saying them.  His Russian doesn't make sense, even without the accent issue.

That's the phrase as written in the movie, but it should be shpionam (шпионам). They at least got the contraction right: SMERSH = SMERt SHpionam.

Minor correction: should be "luchshe" (лучше).  But yeah, great line.

It's not a "nit", though: it's a different word entirely.  Because Russian has a few issues with spelling/pronunciation that are hard to transfer to English, we have certain practices when writing it in English to keep things clear: like writing "GorbachEv" even though we pronounce it "GorbachOv".  No one ever writes…

Ugh, I hate this kind of comment, as if anyone were saying otherwise.  Of course they have every right to their opinions and how they spend their money.  But we also have the right to criticize them for it, boycott them for it, etc.  So what's your point?

Not sure about the show overall, but I'll be surprised if a few of Chapelle's better sketches aren't considered among the high-water marks of sketch comedy for a long time.  "The Black Klan Leader" is timeless.  Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories, especially the one on Prince, isn't going anywhere.

Their show is definitely worth watching.  They still have problems with timing during some of the the sketches (they need to be more efficient, basically), but one thing I really appreciate is that they don't mind taking a simple premise and driving it into totally surreal territory.  If only more sketch comedy were…
