Why isn't Charlie ever happy? I mean, seeing Marnie can't have been good for his day, but god damn. He has so much shit going for him.

Until this season is out, we won't know how it compared to the first three. I suspect it will not be worse; I suspect it won't even be that different. Think about the first three seasons: Even though they had the same showrunner, they did and said different things. The challenge under the new heads is that it needs to…
I'm glad this episode didn't have as much of Psychologist Brita. I thought it was OK for a few jokes about how she's not actually a psychologist, but it's running too long and I felt like it was too frequently being used to push characterisation forward. This episode kept Brita off of that horse and more supportive of…
Very well put. I think you're really hit one what separates a potentially entertaining show from a *good* one. Thinking back to the critical darling The Wire, violence and loss of life are always possible for some characters, and never impossible for any character, but the show establishes other stakes. I think that…
This is, in my opinion, the first really good episode of Season 2. Every story and every character felt like they were being real, even the characters we only see for a brief moment like Jessa and Shoshanna. Which reminds me, Hannah was at that party but Shoshanna wasn't? What bullshit.
I would agree with you about it being fascinating if we weren't being asked to sympathise and laugh at her repeated follies. Maybe the series will prove me wrong by having reality crash into her dream boat, but right now she's not being forced to deal with anything.
The world is NOT taking a shit on her. Not even close. It's the same shit that Adam pointed out at the end of the first season: She thinks her problems are terrible, but they really aren't. Paraphrasing, she tells him she's afraid, he says 'join the club,' and she says that no, she's the MOST afraid. I thought, at the…
You say in the interview that Hannah's monologue was an epiphany. To me, it felt like the most self-absorbed part of the show. She doesn't want to have experiences because she's passionate about something, she does so because she wants to be able to tell others about it. That seems a lot like Jessa, just having…
Maybe it's because I've been ill for the past day, maybe it's because I couldn't get more than a few hours of sleep, maybe it's because my life has becoming incredibly complicated in the span of a few weeks, but for some reason, reading this article and watching the clips made me weep. I'm a grown-ass man, goddammit,…
The Aftermeth is great. Where's the AV Club's peabody?
And here I am, again feeling the opposite. I heard Section.80 and felt about the same about it as I do Channel Orange. It was competent, but it didn't make me stand up and take notice.
I listened to Channel Orange a few times, and while some of the songs were a bit catchy, nothing on it screamed incredible. It was nothing that felt super original, nothing that made me feel anything significant. Good Kid came in number 2 for the year for me; I think Kendrick has a lot more talent in terms of…

I think there is an essay to be written on how Louie is a cultural artefact, too. Louie has been able to pull in baffling amounts of excellent guest stars and recurring characters from the realm of comedy. The series has seen Robin Williams, Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Ricky Gervais, Dane Cook, Steven…

see, this is "something that's slightly amusing, but also pretty annoying." The only funny part of that occurs at the second second, and the remainder is just fluff. You have a strange concept of "good."
