It was a weekend of watching ill-gotten media. Watched Battleship but it really couldn't hold my attention very well. Looks good and not without talent in front of the camera. But weirdly hookless, interms of compelling reasons to keep my eyes on the screen.

You wanna talk "minority" in the comments for a Spike Lee film? Okay: I really like and/or love Lee's angry, incoherent movies. Bamboozled is great. She Hate Me is fascinating. And I think there's something really important going on in Miracle at St. Anna that may take a while to sort out. But it has something to do

I guess it ain't the AV Club unless someone uses an article to post a complaint about Kristin Stewart.

I don't know if my reasons for enjoying the show are shared by anyone, but I'll try to explain it nevertheless. The Canadian sensibility, the gee-whiz, corn fed wholesomeness of the cast, should be a rough fit with the intersecting narratives of show biz degradation. But they synthesize perfectly: the first episode

I loved Speed Racer when I was a kid. My parents thought it was too violent for me (kindergarten age) so I had to visit my friend's house after school to watch it.

The Gilmore Girls' use of music always stuck out glaringly for me. I know it's fantasy, but it's apparently set in a quaint small town in which all the cute high school girls listen to the same music I listened to in high school…25 years earlier.  Doesn't the first episode start with Rory and her Asian pal going crazy

It was a disappointing Batman weekend.

How about watching them for the dancing, the movement, the whole "illusion of motion" thing that movies do so well they call the medium "movies."

I've seen it and I like it a lot. That may be the result of a protracted Friedkin revisionist period I went through, though, which could make me extra forgiving. But I had no problem with the depiction of the NYC gay underground: the film strikes me as highly subjective (something I think the ambiguous ending

I agree about the "oddball gems." I'm a serious, unapologetic fan of Hammer horror, but the weird one-offs are such a baffling good time. I always recommend The Lost Continent, a film that starts out as a "voyage of lost souls" style existential adventure and somehow incorporates the Spanish Inquisition, sea monsters

Rewatching Todd Haynes magnificent adaptation of Mildred Pierce on Blu-ray.
