Well said. Sports can feel like a movie or TV show that no one knows the end to. It's exciting and awe-inspiring, and part of the thrill also comes from feeling part of something (the team, the fandom, etc.) that's bigger than yourself. As polarizing and destructive as sports can sometimes be when rivalries get out of

See, I don't really get this approach. When someone recommends something to me, I normally try to go in expecting to like it, or at least with a positive attitude; obviously, I don't always end up actually liking it, but I try not to approach it with the intention of dismissing it or wanting to prove whoever liked it

@avclub-62812d8eb06386505986efff8b5e43ac:disqus Yeah, the Cards are difficult to hate (unless you're a Reds or Brewers fan, perhaps). I'm a Rangers fan, so I hated them for a week or so after the World Series last year because man, that Game 6 was a heartbreaker. I don't begrudge that team their success at all,

Hey, no shame in wanting to talk about baseball. And I also share your hatred of the Phillies, though as a Nats fan, it's as much out of divisional rivalry as anything else, and the hatred extends more to the fanbase than to any of the actual people on the team.

@avclub-22744840b1991f02b82647f61830a985:disqus I'm in the same boat regarding Glee and The Office. For Glee, I got through both the first two seasons, because for much of the second season, they'd have moments that gave me hope the show would become genuinely good again; by the end, though, I was more than ready to

Much agreed. Don't get me wrong, I think Community is a great show, though this past season was wildly uneven, and it's certainly one of the most ambitious shows on network TV nowadays, but some parts of the fandom can drive me up a wall.

@avclub-7adb6a50e7687b45a00b35796f18f17d:disqus Yes, Toddlers and Tiaras is the worst. I've only seen snippets that I accidentally caught while flipping channels or through people making fun of it or parodying it, but I find that show to be so sad, the epitome of so many things wrong with reality TV and some aspects

I don't really see the comparison, so no? One is a superficially, blandly entertaining movie only watched by anyone if it happens to pop up on TNT and nothing else is on. The other was a genuinely fun thrillfest buoyed by smart direction and writing and a remarkably talented cast.
