Personally, I'd probably go with A, just because if there are a lot of female characters, chances are there would be plenty of characters that are well-written and strong, even if there are also a lot of shallow, generic portrayals.

That would be an interesting thing to look at; also, do indie and/or foreign films feature more female characters than movies made by big Hollywood studios?
But there are also way more diverse, quality roles available to men. The way men vs. women have to work their way up isn't necessarily the same.
@avclub-7fe51b13499ad08aba40a93cbf6e98cd:disqus I didn't care for Election either, and I think it's for sort of the reason that @avclub-0f0d67e214f9fef69b278e3d08114da9:disqus pointed out. The focus on satire in the movie leads to, what I felt was, a lack of empathy for the characters. Pretty much all the characters…
But a lot of actresses don't have the opportunities or the freedom to actively avoid roles in pandering, mediocre films. They have to take whatever parts they can get. However, if you're referring not to actresses in general, but simply to those few elite A-listers who do have the freedom to theoretically choose…
Too many characters, I assume.
@avclub-1881baeccb7399f3452cd7f37cdb2b29:disqus I definitely agree with you about women writing off a lot of movies featuring women. I think it all comes down to the fact that people still stigmatize more female-skewing genres like romantic comedies, so that even for women, there's a slight fear of being seen as…
I'd say it was good, not great. Katniss is a great protagonist, though, especially for a young adult novel.
I think one of the problems is that a lot (not all, obviously) of the best female roles still come from a male perspective. Not sure if everyone will agree with this example, but whatever. Like, Natasha/Black Widow was awesome in The Avengers, but she was still a supporting character in an otherwise extremely…
That still is absolutely gorgeous, not that I'm surprised given it's a Terrence Malick movie. Though I'm still not sure how much I care for Malick, I'm looking forward to this one.
Is it just me or does The Following sound like it should be a movie? Not that it's probably going to be any good either way. I feel like Natalie Zea and Kevin Bacon should have better things to do.
Oooh, that would be so much fun. They won't have any filler episodes, though, I presume.
Agree about the B-movie elements being part of Fringe's charm (along with the frequent homages to sci-fi/geek touchstones). I assumed the game of chess was with Walter from 40 years ago.
I give this season an A-. I feel like my opinion will be more cemented once I can go back and just watch it all in order, without any hiatuses or having to wait a week between episodes. There were a ton of episodes that I thought were brilliant ("One Night in October", "Enemy of My Enemy", "The End of All Things",…
That's a cool theory. I did expect the Bell/Jones storyline to tie more into the Observer storyline. Perhaps there are still details of this season's plot that we've yet to discover.
It's not the show's fault they had no idea whether it would be a season or a series finale. Though I liked this episode, I concede that it felt rather rushed and you could tell they felt like they had to shove a lot in there. Wish the network could've let them know before they wrote the finale whether it would be the…
Overall, I loved this season, though I think season 3 might be my favorite of the show so far. The finale episodes weren't the strongest, but I don't think there were any episodes this season that I thought were outright bad, or that I even actively disliked; there was one or two I could've done without.
@twitter-16745938:disqus It's a general TV thing. I'd probably be more bothered by it if we didn't already know it was coming.
So…smart shows can't tackle religion? Religion has been a theme throughout Fringe, maybe not as blatantly as it was in Lost, but it was still definitely there.
I thought that too.
