Well, fuck, I GUESS I NEED TO LISTEN TO AQUEMINI AGAIN.
It's not as good as Stankonia, but it's better overall than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (or either of those albums in isolation), and it's about as good as Aquemini.
I did the same. Love both of 'em. "Lookin' For Ya" sounds like a Speakerboxxx/The Love Below era Outkast song (from either side), and "Royal Flush" is just straight-up great rap.
I've read his stuff, I just finally realized just how awesome that name is.
Also, does Late Registration count? I prefer that to both of these, with all respect.
About a week ago I listened to "Shine Blockas" thirty times in one day. It was horribly amazing.
The album's great.
But the real triumph here is the name "Michaelangelo Matos."
I was so fucking sad about this.
I love M.I.A. I love The Clash. I don't think that they're comparable, but every time I see M.I.A. discussed for the worse here, I see The Clash dragged along into the mud with her. "Paper Planes" and "Galang" have something to do with The Clash, but I really, really don't think that they're the same at all.
They didn't even look at Donald Glover, but I hear the decided to look at Trevor Moore.
Just jumpy, guys.
I'd also like to say that I consider Kala the greatest hip hop album of all time and am crazy and not to be trusted.
"a longass tweet"
I should mention that I'm not even a fanatic of the band. I love Rising Down, sure, but it's not like I cherish everything they do and play them over and over again.
On this album, it's awful hard to pick a favorite.
With some of the best hip hop albums being pretty long and jumpy-feeling (just look at Madvillainy and 36 Chambers), I think it's great to see that not only M.I.A. has figured out that consistency is really a great thing in an album.
Hate-monger?
Oberst's solo album is phenomenal, and while the rest of his stuff is good, I don't think that anything else by him touches it.
"Renegade" is probably my favorite Jay-Z song. Love it.
Just an aside, when I say that it's one of my favorite hip hop albums ever, I mean up with Kala, The Marshall Mathers LP, 36 Chambers, and Madvillainy. That's how good it is.
