I'm really curious what the motive would be, though. She seemed genuinely surprised when she saw her mother on the public access show.

I actually like that they're setting up the suspects but not outright eliminating anyone just yet. A big problem with serialized mysteries is that they often follow the formula of introducing a suspect and then ruling them out in the same episode. I just hope the killer ends up being someone we know, and not someone…
I feel like Mulan and Hunchback could benefit the most in being remade in live action by removing the comedic sidekicks. Mulan could still work as a musical, but it definitely needs stronger songs to support it. Maybe use some of the original Stephen Schwartz songs?
As much as I love "Reflection," I'd be okay with the songs getting cut. The truly important part is keeping Jerry Goldsmith's gorgeous score wherever possible. The main, seven-note Mulan theme is iconic and more important to the character than any of the songs.
Finn Jones it is.
Is there any NBC sitcom that doesn't have a Filipino on it? I loved creepy Crystal, and those empanadas looked damn good. She's definitely a possible suspect, though at this point it seems like everyone in town had a motive.
Clearly the episode was a retro pastiche that's never going to be a breakaway pop hit.
Yeah, like Scott said, "More I Cannot Wish You" is from the stage version of Guys and Dolls. The funny thing is the closed captioning identified it only as a Paul McCartney song,
It might as well have been Mr. Mxyzptlk. He was wearing almost exactly the same outfit. The wardrobe people couldn't have at least given him a green pocket square and tie?
Only two originals: "Super Friends" by Rachel Bloom and "Runnin' Home to You" by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of La La Land fame. Bloom only had 24 hours to write her song, which explains the lack of polish.
I don't want to say that I hated it, but I was definitely disappointed. What's the point of doing a musical episode if you're just going to sing existing pop songs that are only tangentially related to the plot? This was basically just an episode of Glee. Then again, the original songs they did have were awful.
I groaned when Tandy was trying to cover up Lewis's death, but loved that Gail saw right through it immediately.
Mooching war widows…
"Home" was my favorite new song from the stage version, but unfortunately it's not included in this. The closest we get is a very quick lyrical nod to "A Change in Me." It's really unfortunate because the beauty of the new Broadway songs was that many of them were based on instrumental cues in the animated movie, so…
A lot of those direct-to-video sequels got super weird, didn't they? Cinderella III was basically Fairytale Flashpoint and Lion King 1&1/2 was basically Timon and Pumbaa Are Dead.
I'm just glad we live in a world where people are arguing about the lack of boob armor and not the other thing that's different about her… Pants instead of a leotard? Fuck you, Marvel.
She actually came back in a much later season to reprise the role, and even sang at the Simpsons Hollywood Bowl event in 2014. I was hoping AV Club would ask about those.
Ctrl+F "Lurleen Lumpkin" … I am disappoint.
Lena was wearing a tight black outfit and looked extra sexy at the end. On a show as subtle as Supergirl, I'm sure that giant cleavage = good guy. Well, okay, maybe when they finally get around to Power Girl.
Props to the makeup team. At multiple points I had to remind myself it was the same actress playing Agnes and Aida. They've done such a good job at making Aida uncanny that Agnes looked like a different person.
