Really good point. I think pro-bending would have been fine if they had had lots of episodes to burn, but with a schedule as tight as they had, I think they needed to be more efficient.

Amon being a bender was something I wondered about for a while - it seemed very Slan to me, which is sort of cool, I guess. Though I've got to say that I was hoping the greyness about how the balance of power works when some people have magic and others don't would be addressed,

I thought the boys' refusal to help was the definition of childishly selfish. They have no concept of consequences or how much help is needed or what having their mother be a bear would mean in any real sense and they are entirely focused on manipulating their older sister to get what they want. It seemed pretty…

I have to say that, having seen the movie now, I feel like I didn't see the same one. The slapstick wasn't nearly as lengthy or poorly matched with the emotion as Tasha implied. I thought the movie was charming and fun - it made my mother cry. Though I guess I can agree with the grade - this is a B to B+ Pixar…

You know, people can actually go see Lincoln's hat at the Smithsonian. It doesn't look sturdy enough to stand on.

I haven't read the Thirteenth Child yet - I need to add that to my list.

I loved the Hobbit, but just could not get into LotR as a teenager - the bit where Legolas, Aragorn, and Gimli are chasing orcs always stalled me out. Thankfully, I went back as an adult and absolutely loved it, so there's that.

Wow, really? When I finally got around to reading him as an adult, I was kicking myself for ignoring such a warm, moving set of books because of various cliches said about Salinger himself.

Is the Hunger Games really post-apocalyptic? I thought it was more distopian, or, really, just a straight-up story about living as a colonial under an oppressive dictatorship.

I absolutely loved this book, and I think one of the amazing things about it is how the beginning feels like it might be set in a fantasy world. The reveal of who Octavian and his teachers actually are was pretty powerful.
