Amazing finale. As much as Dan Harmon obviously hates (or has hated) continuity, almost all of my favourite episodes like this one and The Ricklantis Mixup which lean into the long term storytelling. As great as the random one-off episodes can be, you need real stakes every now and then, and I’m intrigued to see where

I think Zack also missed some stuff here. Rick and Morty have never actually “broken up before” There have in fact been mini themes to the last three season, and this year was about Morty’s growing independence from Rick and their seperation (only two episodes this year were actually with Rick and Morty together)

Something interesting to note. This was not the original Evil Morty backstory. As some people might know, but others don’t. A fan figured out the backstory after seeing “Close Rickcounters”, posted his theory, and became widely circulated, so they had to change it. It would have been interesting to see how it

Because these are all based on current-era MCU, I have no problem suspending disbelief that Tony would have taken Peter’s original formula at some point and come up with 100x permutations of it for different situations, just like he did with how it deploys in Homecoming.

Oh my god, a NYC just completely fucking covered in grimy years old web fluid is something I didn’t know I wanted to see until now. He really would be a menace.

The relentless comedic quips interfered with my enjoyment of this one. Particularly after they nailed the dire What If? territory in the last episode. The Scott head in a jar thing was absurd. It made no plot sense, why would Vision even do that, and how then would Scott have no idea about Vision was doing? Vision

See also, The Venture Bros not telling you who Hank and Dean’s mom is

I really enjoyed the offbeat pairings that we probably can’t get in future MCU installments. Spider-Man and Wasp! Happy Hogan and Sharon Carter! Ant-Man and Vision! Kurt and anyone not in the Ant-Man films!

It was fine. The only real standout part to me was Spiderman, who had a bit of the sad clown vibes going early on, but I like that he really was just optimistically determined. This is the character that I think the MCU should be aiming to make Spiderman like in the long-term: Grown up, but without having lost that

I’m curious if other people take Harmon & Co.’s jabbing at continuity at face value? Do we really think that he hates it or is it a way to make fun of the episodic demands of adult swim programming?

“We’re not watching the show for the lore.”

Even savvy Youtoobers admit that they have watch some episodes multiple times prior to posting a review. S5 Eps 9 and 10 had a lot going on. Look for “new rockstars” on YT for some light-hearted breakdowns

I feel for Mr. Poopybutthole for no other reason than Dan Harmon is clearly channeling some of his own life’s tragedies and timelines through him.
So if Harmon could get it back together again, Mr. PBH just needs to hang on :)

I mean it was briefly mentioned in this review, but the beauty of this show is that they can literally just jump back into “canon shit” whenever they want.

There is this weird conversation about serialization in this show. For me, it has always felt consistent that the show will basically be 80% monster-of-the-week episodes with one or two episodes involving something like the Galactic Federation of the Citadel of Ricks.

rick really has a thing for birds doesn’t he?  or maybe he just hasn’t gotten over bird person.

there was talk earlier about harmon and roiland being upset that fans pieced together the entire evil morty story they were trying to tell wasn’t there? IIRC there was even talk of them changing the story because people figured it out. If that’s the case, this episode feels like them taking their ball and going home.

A wizard did it

I made an account to comment this and didn’t know how the pending thing worked, so I copy pasted my comment again. Sorry pls delete this at your leisure!

Interesting middle finger at the fandom with these episodes.
