This was a pretty fucking stupid idea for a movie.

Even as this fleshes out Dom and Jakob’s relationship, it manages to diminish Brewster’s poor Mia, who somehow doesn’t figure into any of half a dozen scenes set during Dom’s youth.
Yeah, I was honestly torn on the grade. I would say it’s a B- for fans (maybe a B for someone who’s REALLY in the tank for it), a C for skeptics, averaging out to a C+ for your garden variety movie-enjoyer who might not follow the SAGA but has seen at least a few of them and had fun. I’m a fan, but not thumbs up on…
8 wasn’t brilliant and I still enjoyed it, so this review isn’t gonna put me off.
They should bring back Devon Aoki!!!
It’s a shame people won’t give Pose a chance because of its characters and their stories. I have to admit I wasn’t interested at first but then I saw the doc Disclosure which led me to Paris is Burning and this show.
Pose is maddeningly difficult to find — especially outside of the U.S. — for such a fabulous series. I ended up buying it on iTunes because it’s not airing on either one of Canada’s queer networks. I’d bet many potential viewers aren’t even aware that the third season has started airing.
The casting choices for the women in Pray’s life read like a who’s who of African American TV sitcom women of eightes and nineties NBCl Jackee, Anna Maria Horsford, Janet Hubert, and then throw in Michelle Hurd for a little Law & OrderL SVU flavor.
And she was super cruel to Blanca SPECIFICALLY so this re-write where she always had a soft spot and favorited Blanca over Candy and Lulu like..... uh since when???? That especially was a complete 180 from the Elektra and Blanca dynamic from S1 that was part of the reason Blanca left to begin with.
Well said, in general. As soon as they showed Elektra *instantly* concerned about seeing some teens working the pier, it was obvious how they’d show her past in this episode but... yeah, it just doesn’t work. And it’s not helped that this is a relatively short show—not a sprawling soap opera that’s been on the air for…
Yeah, I think it is the only full on character flashback/backstory episode (though honestly I’m surprised that we haven’t had them for every single character by now...)
You *almost* have me convinced. But would that drive her to be a person who thinks nothing of ordering someone to destroy the knees of a runway rival? :P But you do raise good points...
Yeah, I’m with you, the more I think about it. I mean this was someone who had NO PROBLEM getting one of her girls to hobble a rivals’ knees, and that’s not even the worst of it. I guess at least she’s consistently reformed now--unlike other Murphy/Falchuk villains (Sue Sylvester on Glee being the obvious one) who…
Well, Christopher proved the old adage in this ep; good friends will help you move, but real ‘ride-or-dies’ will help you move a body.
I think Jackson has improved, but I also thought her shortcomings as an actress were particularly highlighted by having to act opposite the phenomenal Noma Dumezweni.
I feel like it’s too much of a stretch. Elektra was pretty monstrous and cruel in the first season to a ton of people, this wasn’t simply some special strategy of cutting the apron strings.
Agreed 100% about her acting (maybe it helps that she’s playing a more 3 dimensional character now). But, at the risk of sounding obnoxious, I am shocked that the connection between the flashback trunk wasn’t obvious from the start. This show is not subtle. If a trunk featured prominently in one storyline and then…
That’s fair enough. I can... kinda see that, though not quite as extreme as it became, but then I wish the show had touched on that (a brief “but then I let our success blind me to what really mattered” montage or something?) instead of acting like it never happened.
Well the show gets mass bonus points from me for featuring Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder’s disco masterpiece Once Upon a Time and that fairy tale theme at the end. I’m sure, as usual, I’ll have much more to say later on but, my immediate take away is. Best runway in a long time.
The “retcon” of Elektra is now complete,…
I’ve always said that Pose is best consumed as a fairy tale about the ball scene and the transfeminine experience, and that “Once Upon a Time” sequence underscored this nicely.
