Lara Croft is the one that always comes to mind here. I'll fully admit I like both (no joke) both movies but how they managed to botch this potential franchise into only two movies is baffling. It seems the best idea would be that when one is developing a video game for the screen, you bring in the people that wrote

Highly disappointed this wasn't an anthology film based on Jack Finney's stories.

The premise for this reminds me a bit of "Sailing to Byzantium" by Robert Silverberg. Will have to look for it when it comes to Netflix in the next two months.
