I was wondering what other people thought about that accent since I'm not the best one to judge a German accent. Otherwise and in the previews/commercials I've been impressed with her voice/dialect work, but that German/strangled Russian (unlike German I've studied Russian and it definitely sounded like a really bad

my mom happened to be watching with me and after that scene I turned to her and said "that was a little gratuitous for a show following Doctor Who". she proceded to pretend it never happened and talked about how she liked the commercial that was on.
nudity and sex is fine and all when it serves the plot, but they

Yeah, that tells me nothing. My conception of New York is that in the southeast theres the city and then everything else is snow - that's actually pretty much how I picture everything north of the Mason Dixon that isn't on the coast or Chicago.

Which means place behind the pines! I learned from the Daily Show. That's all I have - I've never been north of DC and don't even know where Schenectady is in NY

I was going to say something about women being as diverse as men and that it's uncool to assume that they as group would shun Galt bumper stickers, but then I realized that I'd never actually met a female libertarian, where I've come across far more male libertarians than I'd like, and almost all have been gross

@avclub-614dd68d39916419abec3b749fb33398:disqus 1) Your dismissal of feminism is offensive, as any dismissal of a movement seeking equality and the basic right to be treated as a person would be.
2) Your seeming assumption that your single, dubiously valid counter example negated everything else is offensively

@avclub-614dd68d39916419abec3b749fb33398:disqus , thank you so much for clearing that up if you hadn't I might have assumed that you were being ignorantly dismissive, but now that I know that you don't condone rape, well, I hope you can accept my apology.

@avclub-614dd68d39916419abec3b749fb33398:disqus  Why don't you take off your fedora and actually pay attention to what people are saying. Read the thread.

Because we've somehow managed to come to general consensus that murder is wrong. You don't see people defending murderers and blaming the victims of murder for being just too temptingly murderable. People don't treat the victims of attempted murder like garbage for "ruining the lives" of their attacker. Because high

I think there are a couple of things you aren't taking into consideration

I think my feelings towards Ragnar can best be described as pretty freaked out but also worryingly turned on, so Brad Pitt and Heath Ledger are both apt comparisons.

I imagine now that they've been exposed to Viking tactics, and as they get more experience fighting them, they'll start to develop tactics against them - it's kind of like being faced with a new technology. (actually, come to think of it, did anyone who faced them in combat even survive? I can't remember) I agree with

I guess the impression I got from the review was "I think they're being too squeamish about the rape aspect" rather than "they're doing the best they can so far and I wonder how they'll manage this balance as the show goes on"

My point is that, weighing both the historical reality and the present day cultural context, I feel they handled that aspect in the best way they possibly could have - there's no way I can see that it could have been handled (or non-handled, if they had opted to pretend it never happened) that wouldn't have been

I was interested in how the reviewer would react to the way they handled the "rape" portion of raping and pillaging in this episode, and I'm disappointed.

Gotta say, Kit Harrington's better looking than Sam Worthington, at least to me. Worthington has that squinty eyes-too thick neck deal going on like Channing Tatum; Harrington just has squinty eyes, which he makes up for by having shiny flowing locks that just beg for you to run your hands through them

"Athelstan gets the all-time monk “resisting temptation” badge. I mean- Viking threesome sex?! (Cue the search term “Viking threesome sex” trending on Google…)"
Days late to the party, but I just watched it and glad I wasn't the only one thinking some along those lines, though honestly I'd be surprised if I was - my
