it seems to me that you don't hate the thing that's overrated so much as you hate that fact that it's overrated, so you take out your hate on the thing because it's kind of hard to take it out on an abstract concept
(I hate BBT in a similar manner (though I don't hatewatch it because I'm not  a masochist))

I think there's a difference between taking something down in a way that's worthwhile and just throwing out mean comments blindly - like examining the way Twilight glorifies an emotionally abusive relationships verses whining that Edward Cullen is a pussy and vampires shouldn't sparkle.
