It's interesting how the two brothel scenes bookend the episode: there's one at the start and one at the end. They enclose the episode.

The brothel scene is my favourite part of the episode. Don's origin story is fascinating and it's always a treat when they pull back the curtain to show the young Dick Whitman. I hope there's more flashbacks this season!

The Shining novel has a lot of stuff in it about the Overlook Hotel's past. Torrance finds a box of old newspaper clippings and traces the hotel's history back to the 1920s Boardwalk empire days when the mob owned the hotel. There were a bunch of mob shootings blah blah blah.
