Yay, recommendation! I'll have to check it out.

Before I Fall is probably my favorite recent YA book. The concept is great (high school mean girl is killed in a drunk driving accident, wakes up the next day and relives the day she dies for the next seven days) and I love that the protagonist isn't likable at first.

I somehow slogged through the whole Great and Terrible Beauty trilogy and you really didn't miss much. That series is way too overdone.

Yeah, that book totally killed me.

I know a lot of people think having Death narrate a novel about WWII is too cloying, but I loved his narrative voice. The little breaks where Death briefly mentions bits of humanity that delight or amuse him are pretty great.

Walk Two Moons is one of my favorite books of all books. I read it every few years and the ending still gets me. Also, it's got one of the greatest opening lines for a children's/YA book.

We had to read Anthem in my ninth grade English class. It was an odd choice. I blame that teacher creating the pedantic debate kids when we were in tenth grade.

What?! You're kidding. I never read the sequels for whatever reason, even though I loved A Wrinkle in Time. I think they will continue to not exist in my life.

Isn't that just called The Perks of Being a Wallflower?

I can't even count the number of times I read the Mixed-Up Files. I wanted to be Claudia so much. She had it all figured out: where to sleep, where to get food, how to get money, even how to do her own laundry. There's a lot of YA books about girls being left to their own devices and setting up their own lives
