Someone endeavor to whistle, ineffectually— a joy to watch. Much more of a joy than some mopey cover of a song that one CAN'T screw up.

No, just the Mash. Any deviation thereof would be disastrous.

Let me be FIRST to say that I support the inclusion of oddball picks. Picks that defy interpretation.

To be precise:

Oh, c'mon. A ukulele that big is hardly even a ukulele.

I've already encountered roughly half of these. And yes, I'll vouch for them. (Especially Midas, precisely the right amount of difficult.)

Say, where's your radio show with?

Merle Haggard, Barbra Streisand, the Singing Dogs

The guy does a good job looking like an authentic rockabilly star. And then he has "Doo Wop" show up in his album title.

I'll just say— I'm consistently impressed by how good Adult Swim's browser games are. As stated above, Soul Brother is a game with great mechanics and a fun atmosphere. Also great from Adult Swim this year— Escape from Puppy Death Factory (Portal meets Metroid meets puppies), and Cardboard Box Assembler (a good 3D

That's not true— the REAL Kitten Mittens (which long predate the introduction of Kitten Mittons) are the things of nightmares:

Meade "Lux" Lewis, BTW. (One of the forefathers of boogie-woogie piano.)

I see that Tipsy's remix album features The Bran Flakes and People Like Us, two acts very akin (both of which I discovered/got into this year).

Oh, wow. This music is right up my alley, but I've missed them until now.

Let's see— I discovered and got really into Gordon Jenkins (his weird hi-fi LP musical, Manhattan Tower, is a demented schlock-lounge masterpiece.)

Also, Hallelujah, I'm a Bum! really makes you appreciate how Al Jolson was the biggest star of his day. It doesn't quite come off in The Jazz Singer, but in HIAB! (with solid direction by Lewis Milestone), he has so much frickin' charisma.

That's the old DVD version, from the Gary Cooper collection. Yes, the transfer is passable. Excellent, even.

I've been meaning to read his autobiography, A Child of the Century, which is supposed to be excellent.

You HAVE to see what may be his best two movies: The Smiling Lieutenant and Trouble in Paradise.
