That whole sequence in the middle of the film of wooing McDowell and spending the "perfect" day with her is amazing. It starts off funny (Murray learning French poetry), then romantic, then uncomfortable as Murray pushes his advantage too far, then borderline rapey as he gets more and more desperate. Murray deserved

Well said. Yeah, that sequence seems maudlin on the surface, but it doesn't go where you expect at all.

    He never studied.

Scrooged had the same kind of character arc as Groundhog Day—going from Stripes-era Murray to sincere, noble Murray at the end. Pauline Kael said the film sort of represented him shedding his wiseass persona on screen. I don't think it entirely worked in Scrooged, although I love that movie anyway, but they perfected

Ha ha. It's true. We're so lame!

Throw away the scattered bones of my meal!

And '93 was a peak year for the Knicks as well.

I didn't listen to any Digable Planets for like a decade after college, and yet during all that time off I never forgot some of their lyrics. Talk about ear worms…

I'm not trying to be a Yoko apologist or anything, but even Paul doesn't think she broke up the band.

Oooh, with my naked eye I saw…
