Westbound Sign is a favorite from that album for me, and I agree on American Idiot. I didn't even get it until like six months after it came out because, like a lot of people I'm sure, I just wasn't that enthused about them at that point. But after hearing it, I couldn't have been more excited about the resurgence you

I have a very similar sentiment regarding Dookie. I was a little older than you (13) when it came along but I lived in a town where anything that wasn't country or classic rock was shit, and I remember loving the fact that it was something that was all mine. It was the perfect time in my life to grasp onto something

Warning is an interesting album of theirs for me. I really like all the songs you mentioned as well as a few others, but if I want to listen to Green Day I'll never think of that album first.

It annoys me how much they used to be and still are dismissed as being untalented. I'm not saying they're the apex of musicianship, but I didn't think any of them ever got as much credit as they should for the different things they do well.

I kind of half agree with both of you. I've seen them twice, both times well into their popularity. Once was a Nimrod-era set at a Warped Tour show and once a few years ago right after 21st Century Breakdown came out.

Definitely true for me. After I got Dookie and found out they had previous albums, I got those pretty much immediately. I still remember hearing "One for the Razorbacks" for the first time and thinking, "Huh. So Billie Joe can actually play solos…"

They take a lot of shit now (some deserved, some not in my opinion) -
just look at the Newswire article about their upcoming tour from
yesterday. But I really don't think their Lookout stuff is garbage. It certainly doesn't have the glossy production value that their later albums do, but there are still plenty of

@avclub-fbca7c48c185890bd31f538b91ba5fbb:disqus mentioned "Holden Caulfied" above, too, which is another of my favorites. But for songs that are still among my all time favorites from Green Day, "One of My Lies" is probably at the top of list from Kerplunk for me.

Yeah, I love that song. Looking back, Kerplunk is one of those albums that I've always loved but still surprises me when I listen to it and go, "Oh yeah, this song is on this album, too."

Glad to see it didn't take long for this one to get into the mix. Who'd-a-thunk how appropriate it would be some day.

For whatever reason, one of my favorite tags of all time was the episode where Ross couldn't eat until he named all 50 states and he finally showed up at like midnight saying he got them all, fully aware that he had listed one of them twice.
