I love how Mr. Lippman understands exactly what she's saying about the
exclamation point but still insists that this IS indeed how you're supposed to
say it.

I can understand some of the complaints thus far, but I think it's pretty hard to form much of an opinion either way when a show is three hours into its life. After three episodes, I'm more hopeful about this show than I was about many other new shows recently (granted, I haven't seen some of the agreed-upon "good"…
@avclub-56c31ac2be5439cea7e32c3e8468941c:disqus - he definitely said "phone", too, because I rewound it and put on subtitles after I wondered why the hell he would know about cell phones. There's gotta be some sort of explanation for why people from 1963 are adapting so smoothly to 50 years of technological…
Agreed. The match scene was great, but I thought the child-killer guy was generally creepy throughout. There was more than one scene that gave me the willies (is that still something people say?) and if the show can pull that off a few times per episode then I can overlook some of the shortcomings mentioned in the…
I was really glad to see Gabe's fall into the pool make it into the stray observations. I go back on forth on whether Gabe is intolerably annoying as a character or occasionally funny, but he has little moments like the pool face plant that I really enjoy.
I'd have to agree. It's hard to articulate, but there's something about the show that's just pleasant and comforting to watch. It's like a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of soup - it's not going to be the best meal you ever had but your belly will be content afterwards.
The Friday Night Lights story just made me want to watch Friday Night Lights.
No, but they do. And they're the ones writing it off.
Damnit. Of course I had to make almost the exact same comment in the comment thread immediately before this one, where it would have been much more appropriate.
Of all the freeze frames they do at the ends of episodes, I think The Yada Yada had my favorite. Jerry's face after her line is outstanding.
As a bit of a baseball nerd, I had to laugh at this correction.
I mentioned last week that I enjoy pretty much anything Brad says or does, and that still applies for the most part, but this wasn't my favorite episode of his. Some good stuff here and there, but I like pampered/sophisticated Brad trying to act "hard" more than college student Brad trying to be on Jackass.
Yeah, I really don't care how common it's becoming, the bleeped out swearing will get me pretty much every time. And Up All Night's use of it is always pretty good.
Agreed, the entire exchange was pretty damn good.
Yeah, I think they've got Alex into a really good groove right now. I think these reviews mentioned early in the season that one of the problems for the show was that Alex and Dave were just bland and really only there to be the will-they-won't-they couple, but they've each been given their own little quirks that have…
I commented on him elsewhere, but I'll agree and reiterate that he was the highlight of the episode for me.
I've always been indifferent to anything Chris Parnell does, including this show up until now, but he stole the episode for me. The horse named Lose All Your Money, hanging himself on the shower curtain rod (even though it was obvious how that was going to end)…it all worked for me.
Didn't the finale end with a variation of that same line where he said, "Cass-Kai"? On top of the countless other things I didn't understand, that final line always confused the shit out of me.
That moment baffled me. I really hope it was intentional for him to look that ridiculous and they were just trying to have some fun or something because I couldn't believe that shot of him running would actually make it into the final cut as anything other than a joke.
@avclub-07f2d8dbef3b2aeca9cb258091bc3dba:disqus Yes, there are people like that, at least when it comes to game night. My family is pretty competitive and game night with a large group of us can be more of a headache than fun.
