i'm just speaking from personal experience: *I* find jrpgs impenetrable but the way ff13 eased you in to its more complicated mechanics meant i was never overwhelmed and actually enjoyed myself.

i think ff13 is probably the best place to start. i had stopped enjoying 'jrpgs' a long time ago (i'm talking snes era) because they had become too complicated/obtuse. i found 13 for cheap a while after it came out and decided to give it a shot, and i'm glad i did - it's really made for people who aren't voracious…
