A status symbol truck is not going to be actually doing work. Mercedes SUV’s can haul a boat and put stuff in the back just fine while also seating more people.

Please elaborate. If you buy a Mercedes as a status symbol you still use it for its main purpose. If you buy a truck for a status symbol chances are it will never be used for its main purpose.
