Yes, EP is right, it's by Philippe Starck for Samsonite. It has retractable shoulder straps too, and is padded inside for laptops. Sadly it isn't available anymore (for some years now).

I've had this one since 2002 - it's 10 years old and still looks like new and I constantly get people asking me about it - even today.

For it to retail at $3,600 means it costs $1,000 to manufacture. Retail markup and taxes are a bitch. So considering its not mass produced but hand made (fact) and would take almost a week to make plus material costs, $1,000 is easy to arrive at. I've already seen the new iPhone 5 in the wild here in Rome, I saw it about 6 weeks ago. What's the big deal? Yes it is thin and curved and cool looking. The Telecom Italia executive who showed it had a red case like the one above.
