How has literally nothing happened with the actual crime this season is based on??? Episode One has scientists disappear then reappear dead in an ice cube, and literally nothing has advanced about the crime in 4 episodes.

TL:DR this season is a mess of tones and consistency and pacing, and horror. its not good and i dont need gawker to shill it for me.
I feel like because this is a woman showrunner with women lead characters and concerns the indigenous community, reviewers seem to be reluctant to grade this poorly in case they’re seen as not being “progressive” enough. But this is an absolute trainwreck of a show.
I mean, he can be all of those things, and still sad and lonely. You don’t have to take his side or sympathise or anything; it just makes him more of a human being, as opposed to a one-dimensional cartoon villain.
I’m not sure how this rates an A- when you conclude with this:
This show is half-thawed garbage.
I want to like it but the writing on this show is really awful. The build up and intended payoff is incoherent. The tone is very muddled. What are they going for exactly? Thriller? Family drama? Polemic screed? The whole show is aesthetic and Jodie Foster busting her ass to try and make it all work.
So, the guy got fired from many young comedians’ dream job. This was in response to a public outcry arising from hist racist comments on a podcast, and a portion of the comedy audience effectively disavowed him and continues to do so as seen in the current blowback to his being offered a hosting gig.
Maybe if Bowen Yang has some microagression related issue with every host or guest to appear on the show ... it’s at least possible to consider that the issue is him.
I came for the av bubble meltdown and man, you all never disappoint
Maybe Al Franken will cameo in the episode, to deal the finishing blow to the most insufferable people on the internet.
This fucking website.
Let’s spend more time sneering about teenage relationships from decades ago.
Only my opinion, but this entire episode seems like a step backwards for the show. The pacing was glacial and too much backstory.
I had high hopes for this show, and no, it’s not bad, but it’s not really... good, either. It’s serviceable. I started watching the episode last night thinking, how many more episodes before it’s over. As much as I wanted something that would tie into season 1, I kinda regret that now, seeing the direction they took…
I was confused about Danvers being so anti indigenous signifier. I do think it’s maybe as simple as an association with murder victims.
This one felt like the most overt horror homage with the orange rolling back, the scientist seemingly getting possessed, and the “quid pro quo” bit. I couldn’t help but cackle at the possession voice—The Exorcist/Exorcist III came to mind too—from a combination of the creepy surprise and how over the top demon-y it…
No offense, but you are terrible at watching television, and therefore, probably shouldn’t be reviewing a complicated show like this one.
I think I would’ve liked this season better without any of the references to S1. I assume we’re going to get a timejump at some point in the next episode, so conceivably much of what we are learning now is set-dressing for later drama. That said it does seem like it needs to pick up a bit.
