This is exactly right in my experience. My 3 3/4 year old niece watches Star Wars and Doctor Who with me, and she gets the plots and characters more often than not.

Teenagers can read much more complicated fare than Hunger Games if they put their minds to it. Not that I begrudge them their cheesy pulp novels (or books, if they read at all), but I read Lord of the Rings at the age of four.

I tried reading the books after several friends told me to. They’re sitting on my shelf, gathering dust... and I can’t bring myself to read them. The first book starts off so... so boringly... I can’t do it.

Another tip: Give your companion a flamer. I gave Nick one and he mostly uses his pistol but will pull out the flamer occasionally when there’s lots of little enemies about. He gets unlimited ammo with it and it works really well.

I’ve fought at least three Legendary Deathclaws with skulls next to their names. Those things are scary as hell, but with a nice Super Sledge and good blocking, it can be done.
