Your translation (word by word again...) would actually retranslate as "that is not a canon, this is a canon.", as in the compositional technique where you start a repetition of a melody while the same melody is still playing...

Actually it's just a word for word translation. "not a" would be "keine" in proper german, but since "not"="nicht" and "a"="eine"...
