I've done the baking soda and ACV thing before and my hair was fine. There is definitely an adjustment period, though, and for some people it can take a while to figure out exactly what your hair needs (mine did not like frequent baking soda, for example, so I mostly used ACV).

I was just gonna say: it doesn't mean you just give up on it entirely! I've gone no-poo (or shamPHree as my stylist likes to call it) and been totally happy with it. And not at all gross.
