Just want to say that it's not about feeling sorry for or pitying her. Acknowledging the fucked-up dynamics of an abusive relationship is not the same as pity.

I almost just posted this exact same thing. They are so sweet and smart, and so heartbreaking with their short little lives.
Yeah, it's still doing its weird Masons/Christian mythology thing, but I'm okay with that. I do love the show still, but the first two episodes were just SO damn good that I think the rest of the season hasn't been quite able to live up to them.
