"I'm sorry that this has to be explained to you"

I LOVE Cabin in the Woods. Because I'm a Whedonite, I watched the DVD commentary. One of the things I thought was interesting was Joss and Drew talking about how they used the trope of "punishing the sexual female character" (because the whole movie is about horror movie tropes) but didn't want to also perpetuate

Plug for Georgia Peach here in the Seattle area—they rescue pups from Georgia and find homes for them in the Northwest. ♥

Omg, I LOVED A Gift of Magic by Lois Duncan when I was a kid! I also adored The Girl with the Silver Eyes and Anna to the Infinite Power.

I completely disagree that it's terrible. I can read it very easily! I can't imagine taking notes solely in print—it would take longer because of lifting up the pen so much more often. I tend to write in a hybrid, myself.

WTF, Essence: why would you photoshop the hell out of Ms. Janelle Monae like that?!?! You've managed to make an incredibly gorgeous young woman look like plastic. Frownyface.

TOTALLY.

Listen, just because the Church doesn't acknowledge them doesn't mean they don't exist. Radical Catholics are also Catholic, but they sure as heck ain't acknowledged by the Vatican.

Thanks and thanks!

That really was just a perfect, perfect moment. I am also a HUGE sucker for Wilfred. He's basically my imaginary grampa.

You are basically living my dream—my plan is to do freelance editing, too. And yeah, I already know that I'll need to have good boundaries/routine for myself.

What?! Who doesn't like Amy and Rory?! They are AWESOME. Partially because I always like companions who aren't crushing on the Doctor, and partially because Rory is just so damn adorable. (I also found his dad totally adorable.)

Yes, yes we can.

I love all the Doctors, but I have to say I have successfully converted at least 2 people by starting them with Eleventh Hour (season five, episode one). It's just so captivating.

I just rewatched that Amy and Rory ep last night and yet again bawled my face off. Blubber city.

White girl here, who totes voted for the Cosby Show because I grew up with them and wanted them all to be my family. Like, so, so bad.

Oh, this reminds me of Hyperbole and a Half and Special Dog.

This may have persuaded me to try the books, but I will most likely never watch the show again. I tried real hard to get into it (die-hard fantasy/sci-fi geek that I am), but was just waaay too disturbed at how sexualized the rapes were. Like, I actually felt queasy. I can believe that it's different in the books.

Gag me with a spoon. Ohmahgawd, like changing the way we talk is like totally a big deal. There's like a whole thing called sociolinguistics or whatever? I mean, I totally like Lisa Frank better, but it's so totally not about what I like better, right? Cultural impact to the max!

I had to read that sentence 5 times before I finally realized that it's supposed to say "became," not "because." I was actually getting ready to do a good old-fashioned sentence diagramming because I could not figure out what the fuck was happening.
